Aiken Dumpster Rentals - loading a rental trailer for a cleanup project

Introduction: Your Trusted Local Dumpster Rental Resource

Whether you're clearing out a garage, tearing down a deck, re-roofing your home, or finally tackling that estate cleanout you've been putting off - renting a dumpster is one of the most practical decisions you can make. But between choosing the right size, understanding what you can throw in, and avoiding surprise charges, it's easy to feel overwhelmed before you even get started.

This guide is designed to change that. We've pulled together everything a homeowner or contractor in the Aiken area needs to know about dumpster rentals - all in one place, with no fluff and no runaround.

Aiken Dumpster Rentals is a veteran-owned, locally operated business serving Aiken, Graniteville, and North Augusta, SC. Our approach is built around property-conscious delivery using rubber-wheeled dump trailers designed to minimize the risk of driveway damage - something traditional roll-off trucks can't offer. We handle projects of all sizes, from single-room cleanouts to full renovation debris removal, and we keep the process simple from first call to final pickup.

Use this guide as your complete roadmap. Jump to any section using the Table of Contents on the right, or read straight through for a full orientation to how dumpster rentals work in our area.

Step 1: Choose the Right Dumpster Size

Choosing the right size is the single most important decision you'll make before renting. Too small and you're paying for a second haul; too large and you're paying for capacity you didn't need. We offer three sizes specifically matched to the most common residential and light-commercial project types in the Aiken area.

Size Dimensions Starting Price Weight Limit Rental Period
12 Yard 12 × 7 × 4 ft $285 2 tons 3 days + 1 dump
15 Yard 14 × 7 × 4 ft $345 2.5 tons 3 days + 1 dump
17 Yard 16 × 7 × 4 ft $375 3 tons 3 days + 1 dump

All base prices include a 3-day rental period and one dump run. Additional days can be added for $25 per day, and weight overages are charged at $50 per ton beyond your included limit.

Which Size Is Right for Your Project?

  • 12 Yard: Best for a bathroom renovation, one room of furniture removal, flooring removal from 1-2 rooms, a shed cleanout, or a small brush pile. If you're filling a pickup truck roughly four to five times, this is your size.
  • 15 Yard: Best for a kitchen renovation, small deck demolition, garage or basement cleanout, two rooms of furniture removal, or a medium brush pile.
  • 17 Yard: Best for multiple-room renovation projects, large deck or shed demolition, multiple rooms of furniture removal, a full apartment or mobile-home cleanout, or a large brush pile. Not sure which size fits your project? Contact Aiken Dumpster Rentals and we'll help you choose based on the type and amount of material you need to remove.
Pro Tip: When in doubt, go up one size. The cost difference between tiers is relatively small, and a second haul because you ran out of space will cost significantly more than renting the larger unit from the start.

For a deeper breakdown of which size fits which project type, read our dedicated Dumpster Size Guide, or see all current options on our Sizes & Pricing page.

Step 2: Know What You Can (and Can't) Load

Dumpsters are versatile, but they aren't bottomless pits that accept everything. Knowing what's allowed - and what's prohibited - helps you avoid additional charges, keeps you compliant with disposal regulations, and protects us both from liability at the landfill.

Accepted Materials

  • General household items and furniture (sofas, tables, chairs, dressers)
  • Renovation debris - drywall, lumber, flooring, tile, insulation
  • Yard waste, branches, and non-soil landscaping debris (no logs or stumps)
  • Cardboard, packaging materials, general clutter
  • Small appliances - microwaves, toasters, small kitchen equipment

Accepted With Special Handling

These items are accepted, but each has a required placement and a fee rule. Items marked "beside the dumpster" must not be loaded inside it.

  • Mattresses - placed inside the dumpster, additional fee applies ($10 each in Aiken County / $25 each outside)
  • Large appliances (refrigerators, freezers, ovens, ranges, washers, dryers, dishwashers, water heaters) - placed beside the dumpster, $25 each
  • A/C and HVAC units - placed beside the dumpster, $25 fee each
  • Tires - placed beside the dumpster, not inside ($10 each)
  • Electronics - placed beside the dumpster, not inside ($10 each)
  • Auto/marine batteries - placed beside the dumpster, no fee
  • Propane cylinders - placed beside the dumpster, no fee
  • Roofing shingles - accepted only to one-half dumpster capacity by volume

Prohibited Items - Do Not Load These

Important: The following items cannot be accepted under any circumstances. Loading prohibited materials may result in your load being rejected at the landfill and will result in additional charges.
  • Liquids of any kind - paint, oil, cleaning solvents, chemicals
  • Hazardous materials - asbestos, pesticides, herbicides, lithium-ion and household batteries, pressurized containers other than propane cylinders (auto/marine batteries and propane cylinders are accepted beside the dumpster)
  • Concrete, asphalt, or brick - these require specialized heavy debris disposal
  • Soil or dirt - regardless of quantity
  • Logs and stumps - too heavy and not accepted at standard landfills
  • Medical or biological waste
  • Household garbage, household trash, and municipal solid waste (MSW) - regular bagged household waste of any kind is never accepted

Step 3: Understand the Full Cost Before You Rent

We believe in clear base pricing with applicable additional charges explained before you rent. There's no mystery billing here - everything is spelled out up front so you can make an informed decision and budget accurately for your project.

Base Rental Pricing

Each rental starts at the base price for your chosen size (see the table in Step 1). That base covers a 3-day rental period and one dump run. If your project wraps up in a day, great - you've still got that time cushion. If you need a few extra days to load at your own pace, you can extend.

Potential Additional Charges

Add-On Rate Notes
Extra rental day $25/day Beyond the included 3-day period
Extra weight $50/ton Beyond included weight limit for your size
Mattresses $10 (Aiken County) / $25 (outside) Placed inside dumpster
Tires $10 each Must be placed beside dumpster, not inside
Electronics $10 each Must be placed beside dumpster, not inside
Large appliances Additional fee - call (803) 679-8899 Placed beside dumpster, not inside
A/C and HVAC units $25 each Placed beside dumpster, not inside
Auto/marine batteries & propane cylinders No fee Placed beside dumpster, not inside
Swap / return service Base rate minus 10% Weekdays only, 7am-5pm

Roofing Shingles - A Special Note

Roofing shingles are heavy. We do accept them, but loads should be limited to half-capacity to avoid exceeding weight limits at the landfill. If you're re-roofing a large structure, it may make more sense to request a swap mid-project. We'll walk you through the most cost-effective approach when you contact us. See our roofing dumpster rental guide for shingle weight and sizing details.

What Sets Us Apart: Driveway-Safe Dump Trailers

If you've ever seen a traditional roll-off container delivery, you know how it works: a heavy truck backs in, drops a large steel container off the back, and drives away. For residential properties - especially those with concrete, pavers, or older surfaces - that delivery method can create real risks for your driveway and the ground near it.

At Aiken Dumpster Rentals, we use rubber-wheeled dump trailers rather than standard roll-off containers. Here's what that means for you:

  • Rubber wheels vs. steel runners - Our trailers ride on rubber tires, which distribute weight more evenly and are significantly gentler on paved and unpaved surfaces than metal skids or heavy truck frames.
  • Careful placement approach - We take placement seriously. We assess the surface before positioning the trailer, and we prioritize spots that minimize the risk of surface stress.
  • Trailer-tow delivery method - Aiken Dumpster Rentals uses a truck to tow a rubber-wheeled dump trailer rather than a traditional roll-off truck that must load and support the container during pickup. That difference in how the container is handled at retrieval helps reduce stress on your driveway and the ground near its edge.
  • Property-conscious service - The entire experience is designed with your property in mind. We're not a high-volume roll-off operation optimizing for speed; we're a locally operated service optimizing for care.
Our equipment and approach are designed to minimize the risk of driveway damage. While no delivery method can guarantee zero impact on all surface types under all conditions, our rubber-wheeled trailers and careful placement methods help reduce risks associated with traditional roll-off containers.

To understand exactly how this difference plays out in real delivery scenarios, read our full breakdown: Why Driveway-Safe Dumpster Rentals Matter in Aiken, SC.

Common Projects That Use Dumpster Rentals

Our dumpsters are used across a wide range of project types in the Aiken area. Below is a quick overview of the most common use cases - each with its own dedicated guide if you want deeper project-specific advice.

Home Cleanouts

Estate cleanouts, hoarder cleanouts, or simply clearing decades of accumulated belongings from a home are some of the most common reasons people rent a dumpster. Having a container on-site for a few days lets you move at your own pace without multiple trips to the dump. Read more: How a Dumpster Trailer Makes Home Cleanouts Faster and Easier.

Renovation Debris

Kitchen remodels, bathroom gut-outs, flooring replacements, and full-room renovations generate substantial debris fast. A dumpster on your driveway or yard means the job site stays clear and your crew stays productive. Read more: The Best Way to Manage Renovation Debris in Aiken, SC, or Dumpster Rental for Contractors in Aiken, SC.

Roofing Projects

Tear-offs generate heavy, sharp debris fast. A properly sized dumpster positioned close to your work area - with our careful attention to weight limits for shingles - keeps the job site safe and clean throughout the project. Yard and Storm Cleanup

After a major storm or a seasonal landscape overhaul, branches, debris, and non-soil organic material adds up quickly. A dumpster rental gives you a central collection point for efficient cleanup without renting a trailer or making multiple dump runs. Read more: Yard and Storm Cleanup Dumpster Rental in Aiken, SC.

Moving and Downsizing

Relocating or downsizing is the perfect opportunity to sort out what stays, what sells, and what goes. A dumpster takes the pressure off by giving you a place to discard items you're not hauling to donation or selling - so your move stays focused and your new space stays uncluttered. How the Rental Process Works

We've streamlined the rental process to be as simple as possible, but it's important to understand how it works from start to finish - especially the difference between submitting a request and receiving a confirmed booking.

1

Submit Your Rental Request

Use our online booking form or call us at (803) 679-8899 to submit your request. You'll tell us your desired dates, location, project type, and preferred dumpster size. This step initiates the process - it is not an instant confirmed booking.

2

We Review and Confirm Availability

We'll review your request and confirm availability for your requested dates. If there's a scheduling conflict or we need to discuss alternative dates, we'll reach out promptly. Once availability is confirmed, we'll go over any project-specific details to make sure you have the right size and setup.

3

Digital Agreement and Scheduling

Once everything is confirmed, you'll receive a digital rental agreement outlining the terms, pricing, and delivery details. After signing, your rental is officially scheduled. We'll arrive at the agreed time to deliver your dumpster to the exact placement you need, and we'll coordinate pickup once your rental period ends or you give us the go-ahead.

Important: Submitting a booking request online is NOT an instant confirmed reservation. Your rental is confirmed only after we review availability and you receive written confirmation from us. We recommend booking several days in advance, especially during busy seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are the questions we hear most often from customers in Aiken, Graniteville, and North Augusta. If you don't see your question here, give us a call at (803) 679-8899 - we're happy to talk through your specific project.

How long is the standard rental period, and what if I need more time?

All rentals include a 3-day rental period with one dump run. If your project takes longer, you can extend on a day-by-day basis for $25 per day. Just let us know before your rental period ends and we'll arrange the extension. We understand that projects don't always go according to schedule, so we work with you to accommodate your timeline wherever possible.

What is the weight limit, and what happens if I go over?

Each size has a built-in weight allowance: 2 tons for the 12-yard, 2.5 tons for the 15-yard, and 3 tons for the 17-yard. If your load exceeds your included weight limit, overage charges are $50 per ton. The best way to avoid overages is to be mindful of dense materials like concrete, soil, and heavy roofing debris - though we should note that concrete and soil are prohibited items. For roofing shingles, we recommend keeping loads to half-capacity to stay within the weight limit.

What materials are completely prohibited?

The following cannot be accepted under any circumstances: liquids (paint, oil, solvents), hazardous materials (asbestos, pesticides, lithium-ion and household batteries, pressurized containers other than propane cylinders), concrete, asphalt, or brick, soil or dirt, logs and stumps, and household garbage, household trash, or municipal solid waste (MSW) - regular bagged household waste of any kind is never accepted. Large appliances, A/C and HVAC units, tires, electronics, auto/marine batteries, and propane cylinders are accepted with special handling (placed beside the dumpster; fees apply to most - see the guide above). Including prohibited materials in your load may result in the load being rejected at the landfill and additional fees being passed on to you. See our full Prohibited Items guide for details.

Can I put roofing shingles in the dumpster?

Yes, we accept roofing shingles - but with an important limitation. Because shingles are exceptionally heavy, loads containing shingles should be kept to half-capacity or less to avoid exceeding weight limits at the landfill. A dumpster that looks half-full of shingles can easily be at or over the weight limit. If you're doing a full roof tear-off on a larger structure, consider requesting a mid-project swap so you have a fresh container for the second half of the job. Call us and we'll help you plan the most efficient approach.

Can I put appliances in the dumpster?

Small appliances like microwaves and toasters go straight in the dumpster. Large appliances - refrigerators, freezers, ovens, ranges, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and water heaters - are accepted with special handling: place them beside the dumpster, never inside, and note that a $25-each fee applies. A/C and HVAC units are $25 per unit, also placed beside the dumpster for separate refrigerant handling. Electronics such as TVs, computers, and monitors must not be placed inside the dumpster - they must be placed beside it for separate handling, and a $10-per-item fee applies. Auto/marine batteries and propane cylinders also go beside the dumpster with no fee. When in doubt, call us before loading.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

This is one of the most common concerns we hear, and it's exactly why we use rubber-wheeled dump trailers instead of traditional roll-off containers. Our equipment is designed to minimize the risk of driveway damage - rubber wheels distribute weight more gently than steel skids or heavy truck frames, and we take placement seriously before every delivery. That said, no delivery method can guarantee zero impact on every surface under all conditions. We assess each placement and communicate openly with you if there are any surface concerns before we position the trailer.

Is my online booking request an instant confirmed reservation?

No - submitting a booking request is not an instant confirmed reservation. After you submit your request through the online form or by phone, we review availability and follow up to confirm your dates and details. Your rental is officially confirmed once you've received written confirmation and completed the digital rental agreement. We recommend reaching out at least a few days ahead of your planned start date - earlier during peak seasons like spring cleanup and summer construction.

Do you serve Augusta, GA?

We serve North Augusta, SC - which is a separate city in South Carolina, not to be confused with Augusta, GA across the Savannah River. Our primary service areas are Aiken, SC; Graniteville, SC; and North Augusta, SC. We are not a Georgia-based provider and do not operate primarily within Augusta, GA.
